We are very lucky to have Third Law in our Community

I wanted to drop a quick note to thank you all for working with our kids and putting so much effort in the things that you do. Although I really can’t interpret Parker’s grades as clearly, Devon, Alexis and Dawson all had straight A’s (Parker was up there too). Additionally, Alexis and Devon both scored 5’s in the state assessment.

We know Roberto does not put much merit on County/State assessments and grades, but it certainly makes us feel really good knowing that our kids are excelling in their school work and your team is certainly a big part of that.

Our never-ending gratitude goes to you, Roberto, Mila, Joe, Joey and Noah for making this achievable and being such great role models for them to follow. We are very lucky to have Third Law in our Community (truly one of the best kept secrets)!!!

Anatomy Lesson | Naples After School

By | Science | No Comments

Knowledge is power and a never ending journey full of magic and wonder.

Team Third Law head instructor Roberto Torralbas recently taught Naples kids about anatomy. Torralbas, a Cornell University graduate, made the science come to life by using computer software and a 3-D replica of the body. The program highlighted all parts of the body while allowing Torralbas to zoom in and out, so Naples afterschool kids could better see how systems in the body work together.

During the lesson, Torralbas thoughtfully engaged students and repeated the answer a few times to make sure they knew what it was, but not before taking the time to explain the science behind it.

Torralbas, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, thought the lesson to be especially pertinent because all of his Naples afterschool kids participate in martial arts. For example, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu chokes affect the respiratory and circulatory system. Striking techniques in Muay Thai affect the nervous system.

Being able to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom makes learning fun and easier to remember. If you are in the Southwest Florida area and would like to learn more about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from one of the top instructors in the nation, check out Team Third Law’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Naples, founded by Roberto Torralbas, a Cornell University educated BJJ Master.

We use technology in very FEW instances when we can harness it’s power and use it to our advantage.

Mental Math Speed Challenge: Math Application for practicing Math Facts done on iPad tablets mounted on the wall.

  • We mount our tablets on the wall so we can monitor what the kids are doing at all times, standing up and using the tablets helps them focus and allows us to watch them work on their math
  • Practices Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and Mixed Equations by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert)
  • Captures kids attention and helps them memorize foundational math facts
  • Breaks habit of counting on fingers
  • Sets them up for success as they reach later elementary and need these facts quickly for multiple digit addition and subtraction, long multiplication, long division, etc
  • Scores recorded and celebrated when students beat levels, master new types of equations in our Mental Math Speed Challenge
