Anatomy Lesson | Naples After School

By September 10, 2015 Science

Knowledge is power and a never ending journey full of magic and wonder.

Team Third Law head instructor Roberto Torralbas recently taught Naples kids about anatomy. Torralbas, a Cornell University graduate, made the science come to life by using computer software and a 3-D replica of the body. The program highlighted all parts of the body while allowing Torralbas to zoom in and out, so Naples afterschool kids could better see how systems in the body work together.

During the lesson, Torralbas thoughtfully engaged students and repeated the answer a few times to make sure they knew what it was, but not before taking the time to explain the science behind it.

Torralbas, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, thought the lesson to be especially pertinent because all of his Naples afterschool kids participate in martial arts. For example, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu chokes affect the respiratory and circulatory system. Striking techniques in Muay Thai affect the nervous system.

Being able to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom makes learning fun and easier to remember.
